Service · Bespoke Data Sourcing

Build the information around the requirement—not around whatever happens to be available.

A list of requested fields can describe what is wanted without defining what each value needs to establish.

VLC helps construct new information universes and source materially absent business information around the intended use. Where the available evidence is insufficient, gaps and limitations remain visible rather than being converted into unsupported conclusions.

Discuss Your Requirement
Why this problem matters

More data is not necessarily the information the requirement needs.

A client may know the companies, markets, locations, functions, people or attributes it wants to understand. But the requested field does not necessarily define the conclusion that the information must support.

An industry field may not establish what an organisation currently does. A job title may not establish responsibility. A website may not establish association with the intended entity. An available email address may not establish the communication route required.

The sourcing requirement should begin with what the information needs to support—not merely which fields need to be populated.
What this Service owns

Constructing information around a defined requirement.

Bespoke Data Sourcing applies where the primary need is to build a new information universe or source materially absent information beyond an agreed existing asset.

Depending on the agreed scope, this may include:

  • Identifying organisations, people or other relevant entities
  • Sourcing defined business attributes
  • Evaluating whether sourced information can be sufficiently associated with the intended entities for the agreed requirement
  • Preserving source or research context where material
  • Recording gaps, conflicts and unresolved findings
  • Delivering structured information within the agreed evidential and commercial boundary

Where the work depends on establishing what an organisation represents, whether it belongs in a market, which roles are relevant or what communication evidence supports, that conclusion remains with the VLC Service responsible for that question.

Questions, not stages

The questions VLC must distinguish.

What must the information establish?

Separate the intended business use from the fields requested so that the work is built around the propositions that materially matter.

Which organisations, people or other entities belong within scope?

Define the intended information universe without treating an apparent match as sufficient evidence of inclusion or association.

What evidence is appropriate to the question?

Consider suitable sources without assuming that one database, website or publicly available record can establish every required proposition.

What can responsibly be delivered?

Preserve gaps, conflicts, limitations and unresolved findings where the available evidence does not support a stronger result.

These questions are not a fixed sequence. They may need to be reconsidered as additional evidence or relationships emerge.

Important boundaries

Finding information is not the same as establishing what it means.

Found does not mean established.

The presence of a value does not establish its currency, association, relevance or suitability for the requirement.

Requested does not mean supportable.

A requested field, title or attribute may not exist in the expected form—or may not support the conclusion the client intends to draw.

Apparent match does not mean correct association.

Similar names, domains, addresses, people or other values do not by themselves establish that the information belongs to the intended entity.

Unavailable does not mean negative.

Where suitable evidence cannot be found, the responsible result may be unresolved rather than an assumed absence or disqualification.

Public availability is a characteristic of the source, not universal permission to collect, retain, repurpose or use the information for every purpose.

Representative outputs

What an engagement may produce.

  • A structured company, contact or other defined information universe
  • Sourced business attributes associated with relevant records
  • Qualification of material gaps, conflicts or unresolved elements
  • Provenance or research context where required
  • Exclusions or exception states where information cannot be sufficiently supported
  • Delivery structured around the agreed use and scope

The exact output depends on the agreed requirement and what the available evidence can responsibly support.

Contributing questions

Sourcing information can involve conclusions owned elsewhere.

Company Name, Website & Domain and Address Standardisation may help compare representations and evaluate whether sourced information can be associated with the intended entity.

Standardisation can support comparison and association; it does not independently establish identity.

Database Health Assessment may contribute where the condition of a material existing asset affects the sourcing scope.

When another Service owns the conclusion

Company Classification

Owns conclusions about what an organisation represents.

TAM Mapping

Owns conclusions about membership of a defined market universe.

Role & Organisational Intelligence

Owns conclusions about functional or organisational relevance.

Governed Email Validation

Owns conclusions supported by communication evidence.

Sourcing may provide information used by another Service without becoming proof of that Service’s conclusion.
Sourcing versus cleansing and enrichment

Data Cleansing & Enrichment adds sufficiently supported context to records already within an agreed information asset. Where the primary requirement is to construct a new information universe or source materially absent information beyond the agreed asset, the requirement belongs to Bespoke Data Sourcing.
