Service · Data Cleansing & Enrichment

Improve the information you already have without mistaking populated data for dependable data.

Existing business information can become inconsistent, incomplete, duplicated or outdated. Other values may still look correct while no longer being sufficiently supported for the intended use.

VLC helps improve existing business information while preserving the distinction between a changed value and a supportable conclusion.

Why this problem matters

A populated database can still be difficult to rely on.

Values may be present while carrying inconsistencies in identity, representation, currency or context. Some can be corrected directly; others require more evidence or should remain unresolved.

The objective is to improve the information in a way that remains appropriate to what it needs to support.
What this Service owns

Improvement of the existing information asset.

  • Correcting or standardising values where supported
  • Identifying duplicates, conflicts and review requirements
  • Enriching agreed gaps where evidence is sufficient
  • Preserving unresolved states where it is not

Where improvement depends on establishing something about a company, market, location, person or communication route, that question is evaluated on its own evidence.

Questions, not stages

The questions VLC must distinguish.

What exists?

Is the value usable and represented consistently enough to evaluate?

What does it represent?

Can it be associated with the intended business object? Standardisation alone does not establish identity.

What has changed?

What supports treating an existing value as outdated or inappropriate—and replacing it?

What is missing?

Does the requirement justify enrichment, and is the missing information sufficiently supported?

These questions are not a fixed sequence. A value may need to be reconsidered as additional evidence or relationships become available.

Important boundaries

Improvement should not create unsupported certainty.

Standardised does not mean verified.

Comparable values do not automatically represent the same entity.

Populated does not mean dependable.

Availability does not establish currency, relevance or suitability.

Newer does not automatically mean better.

A discovered value should not replace existing information without sufficient reason.

One domain does not prove another.

A finding may contribute to the wider record without establishing another domain’s conclusion.

Representative outputs

What an engagement may produce.

  • An appropriately improved version of the supplied information
  • Standardised representations where comparison requires them
  • Supported enrichment for agreed gaps
  • Duplicates, conflicts or values requiring review
  • Retained uncertainty or exception states
  • Context for material changes or unresolved findings

The exact output depends on the agreed scope and what the available evidence can responsibly support.

Contributing questions

Improving one information asset can involve different kinds of questions.

Some changes depend on supporting capabilities; others require a conclusion owned by another VLC Service.

Capabilities that may inform or support the engagement

Database Health Assessment

May identify material weaknesses and proportionate intervention, including before scope.

Company Name Standardisation

May make representations comparable without treating similarity as identity.

Website & Domain Standardisation

May distinguish canonical, current, legacy and associated references.

Address Standardisation

May support comparison while preserving location type and association.

Applying a capability does not automatically verify the value or establish another domain’s conclusion.

When another Service owns the conclusion

Questions about organisational representation, market eligibility, role relevance, email evidence or materially absent information retain their own Service ownership.

A finding may contribute to the wider requirement without becoming proof of a conclusion belonging to another domain.
Enrichment versus sourcing

Enrichment adds sufficiently supported context to records within the agreed information asset. Constructing a new information universe or sourcing materially absent information beyond that asset belongs to Bespoke Data Sourcing.
