Some requirements need bounded supporting work before wider delivery.
Within a VLC engagement, particular information may need to be assessed, compared, standardised or qualified before it can contribute responsibly to the wider requirement.
Supporting Capabilities may contribute during scoping, a diagnostic phase or a relevant Service engagement. They do not independently establish conclusions beyond their defined scope.
Capabilities contribute evidence and context. Services retain ownership of their conclusions.
Understand the work a capability may perform—and where its boundary remains.
Select a capability to understand what it helps with, what it considers, what it does not independently establish and where it may contribute.
Applying a capability may contribute relevant evidence. It does not, by itself, establish that a value is correct, current, associated with the intended entity or sufficient to support a conclusion owned elsewhere.

Company Name Standardisation Make differing company-name representations more comparable without treating similarity as identity.
What it helps with
Company names can vary across sources because of legal suffixes, trading styles, abbreviations, punctuation, spacing, historical forms or source-specific conventions.
Company Name Standardisation helps create more consistent representations for comparison and wider information work while preserving material differences between the names encountered.
What it considers
Depending on the requirement, the capability may consider:
- legal and registered names;
- trading or operating names;
- abbreviated and expanded forms;
- historical or former representations;
- punctuation, spacing and legal-suffix variations;
- source-specific company-name formats;
- known or sufficiently supported relationships between relevant variants;
- representations that should remain separate or unresolved.
What it does not independently establish
A standardised name does not prove that the underlying entity has been identified correctly.
Two names looking similar may provide a useful comparison signal, but similarity alone does not establish that they represent the same organisation. Legal, trading, historical and source-specific names may each be legitimate representations without any one form expressing the complete organisational identity.
Comparable representation does not mean resolved entity identity.

Its relevance depends on the requirement. Applying it does not make it a prerequisite to those Services.
Database Health Assessment Understand the condition of an existing information asset before deciding what intervention is proportionate.
What it helps with
An information asset may appear complete while containing uneven levels of currency, consistency, duplication, supportability or relevance.
Database Health Assessment helps identify where material weaknesses may exist relative to what the information is expected to support. It may be useful before the scope of corrective, enrichment or sourcing work is determined.
What it considers
The assessment may consider the intended use of the asset, its structure and source history, the condition of material fields or information domains, known inconsistencies, duplication risks, missing information and indicators that values may require further review.
Different areas of the same asset may have different conditions. A recent file date does not necessarily mean its underlying information was recently researched or evaluated.
What it does not independently establish
A diagnosis does not correct the information it examines.
A populated or highly complete asset is not automatically dependable, while a blank field is not automatically its most material weakness. An overall assessment should not conceal materially different conditions across individual fields or information domains.
Diagnosed condition does not mean corrected or universally dependable information.
Where it may contribute
Database Health Assessment may contribute primarily within:
Data Cleansing & Enrichment
It may also inform Bespoke Data Sourcing where the condition of an existing information asset materially affects the sourcing requirement or its scope.
Website & Domain Standardisation Make web and domain references more consistent while preserving what those references actually represent.
What it helps with
Website and domain information can appear in different forms across records and sources. These may include complete URLs, root domains, subdomains, page-level addresses, redirects, legacy domains or alternative organisational references.
Website & Domain Standardisation helps make those representations more comparable and distinguish relationships that may matter to the requirement.
What it considers
Depending on scope, the capability may consider:
- root-domain and page-level representations;
- URL components and formatting differences;
- canonical and redirected references;
- current and legacy domains;
- multiple websites or domains connected with an organisation;
- the context in which a website or domain is being associated with the intended organisation.
What it does not independently establish
A website resolving does not prove that it represents the intended organisation. Redirect behaviour may provide evidence about a relationship without independently establishing current organisational association.
Likewise, an operational or organisationally associated domain does not establish support for a specific email address.
A canonical, redirected or operational reference does not independently establish organisational association.
Where it may contribute
Website & Domain Standardisation may contribute within:
Data Cleansing & Enrichment · Bespoke Data Sourcing · Company Classification · Governed Email Validation
Its contribution remains bounded to the website or domain evidence relevant to the requirement.
Address Standardisation Normalise and compare address representations without turning formatting into location truth.
What it helps with
The same location may appear through different layouts, abbreviations, component orders or geographic conventions. Address Standardisation helps create more consistent representations for comparison while preserving distinctions that matter to the requirement.
What it considers
The capability may consider address components, country and regional conventions, postcode formats, original representations, multiple locations and relevant location types such as registered office, headquarters, branch, trading or another operating location.
What it does not independently establish
A correctly formatted address does not establish that an organisation currently occupies or operates from that location.
A shared address does not make separate organisations the same entity, and a registered office should not automatically be treated as an operating location.
Normalised location representation does not mean organisational occupancy, operation or association.

Its relevance depends on the location proposition the wider requirement needs to support.
Not every engagement requires every Supporting Capability.
A capability may be applied while scope is being understood, within a bounded diagnostic phase or during a Service engagement where a specific information issue requires supporting work.
Its use does not transfer ownership of the wider conclusion from the responsible Service.
The capability performs the supporting work. The relevant Service retains ownership of what the resulting evidence can responsibly establish.
Start with the requirement, not the capability.
You do not need to decide which Supporting Capabilities should be applied before speaking with VLC.
Tell us what information you have, what it needs to support and where the uncertainty or difficulty currently sits. VLC can then determine which Service owns the requirement and which capabilities may materially contribute.
